Many people have the dream of moving to another country to live, but for most the biggest sticking point is that they require an ongoing income to do so.
Both should be considered carefully before making a decision.
Finding employment in Spain is possible and can be straight forward if you come from Europe but it can limit you to moving to a more cosmopolitan usually Coastal area if you do not speak the language when you re-locate. Some people are able to continue in the same field of work as they were in prior to moving but this is not always possible. Its important to look at the job situation prior to moving and for the Costa Del Sol there are a couple of excellent places to start:
If you are considering starting a business in Spain or buying commercial properties in Spain then you must also look carefully at competition, location and what makes you different from the rest. Also be realistic with your financial goals and predictions and speak with other foreigners who are doing the same thing to ensure your information is as accurate as possible. Its also vital that you work with a reputable agent who specializes in Spanish business to help you navigate what can be a minefield of red tape.
Rental of a Property for Business in Spain is usually limited to offices and empty shells and rental contracts are generally for 1 year renewable. There is usually a fee for the agent and opening licence can vary from €2000 to €7000 depending on type of business and the size of the property.
If you choose a leasehold then you are required to make a 1 off payment to the leaseholder and the property is contracted to you for a number of years. You are then also required to pay a monthly rental via standing order. The opening licence costs are the same as above.
You also have the option to purchase the Freehold outright or finance this with a bank mortgage. There are legal fees involved with this which usually cost around 10% of the declared purchase price.
