Thailand's New Super Tower among World's Tallest Buildings

A Thai property developer recently announced plans to build one of the world's tallest buildings in Thailand's capital, Bangkok.

The move, seen by many as a vote of confidence in the country's economy, is expected to attract further investment in its real estate sector and underpin Thailand's strengthening recovery.

The 'Super Tower' skyscraper will be among 10 tallest buildings in the world when it is completed in 2019, with 125-floors rising 615 metres in the Bangkok skyline.

The tower, being developed by Grand Canal Land Public Company, will include a luxury hotel, offices and an observation deck with panoramic views of Bangkok.

Bangkok's Super Tower will be the world's ninth tallest building, according to the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat which maintains a database of skyscrapers.

It will also dwarf the tallest building currently in Thailand, the Baiyok II tower which has 85-floors and stands at 328.4 metres.

Grand Canal plans for the €2.5bn tower to be central to a new 90,000sqm business, shopping and residential district in Bangkok. Yotin Boondicharern CEO of Grand Canal said:

"I am confident that the Thai economy is roaring ahead. We have launched the Super Tower project in response to the government policy to develop Thailand further and establish the country as the economic leader in the region. The Super Tower will be completed in 2019, boasting the huge potential to attract both domestic and foreign investors. The project will be the pride of all Thais since it will become not just an economic hub of the ASEAN Economic Community but also a world-class attraction."

The record for tallest building in the world is currently held by Dubai's world-famous Burj Khalifa which has 163-floors and is 828 metres high.
