Working in Dubai

The city-state of Dubai offers amazing attractions for anyone moving to the Middle East for work purposes. In expectation of Expo 2020 attracting around 25 million visitors, the country is gearing up to greatly improved economic conditions and better infrastructure development. Property prices may have taken something of a hit in 2017, but are expected to pick up again sharply in anticipation of Expo 2020. This is a good time to invest with a view to long-term capital gains and rental yields.

Attractions include Burj Al Arab luxury hotel, Dubai Fountain in the centre of Dubai, Madinat Jumeira, Kite Beach, which is popular with watersports enthusiasts and Dubai Mall, probably the world's largest shopping mall and entertainment centre.

Dubai Fountain is submerged in 30-acre Burj Lake, which lies at the far end of Dubai Mall. Every day after 6 pm, the fountain jets up to 22,000 gallons of water some 140 metres up in the air, accompanied by classical and contemporary music.

Dubai Mall boasts more than 1,200 retail outlets, among them over 70 designer fashion stores representing brands like Burberry and Versace. Both Bloomingdales and Galeries Lafayette, the first in the Middle East, are present at Dubai Mall.

This vast shopping complex also houses one of the city's star attractions for families - Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, as well as a huge play area for children, an Olympic-sized ice rink and huge cinema complex.

Working in United Arab Emirates

Visa requirements and work permit rules are changing all the time, so if you're thinking of working in Dubai for a short period of time (in excess of 60 days) as a British or European citizen, contact the UAE embassy in London for up-to-date information. Visitors from certain countries will be able to arrange a paid visa and probationary work visa in advance that will cover them for 90 days. For short visits new arrivals are given a 30-day visa upon arrival at Dubai International Airport. This visa is free of charge.
